Enjoy hand-crafted Italian style wines and unique dessert wines at Castello di Amorosa, an authentically built castle winery in the northern hills of Napa Valley. Castello di Amorosa opened in April 2007, some 14 years after owner Daryl Sattui first set out to build the winery of his dreams. He is also the owner of V. Sattui, a winery and deli which he opened in 1975 a few miles away in St. Helena, which is a popular picnic stop along Napa Valley’s scenic Highway 29. Daryl Sattui's passion for medieval architecture and love of all things Italian - including the people, the food, the architecture, and the wines - was the inspiration behind his desire to create a beautiful and authentic environment as a backdrop for showcasing great wines. Visitors to Castello di Amorosa will reap the benefit of Daryl Sattui’s desire to make great wine, to have fun, and to meet interesting people. The CastleCastello di Amorosa (Castle of Love) is an amazing 121,000 square foot stone fortress, complete with guard towers, escape tunnels, a moat, a grand hall with colorful frescoes and massive 500 year old fireplace, family chapels, and a torture chamber furnished with a 15th century iron maiden. The tasting room is located beneath the castle in a two-acre barrel cellar room that features 14 foot high ceilings, 40 crossed vaulted bays in old, handmade brick, and a travertine bar. In all, there are 107 rooms on seven levels. The beauty, size, and authenticity of the castle is truly impressive. Daryl Sattui’s desire for authenticity dictated the materials used, the workmanship involved, and the attention to details which is evident in all aspects of the building. The construction was performed by local craftsmen who shaped every stone by hand, the old-fashioned way. The castle was built with hundreds of thousand of bricks, many which were imported from European ruins, stone quarried on-site, Italian terra cotta roof tiles, imported chestnut timbers and five-inch thick doors from Italy, and period appropriate metal work. The WinesCastello di Amorosa offers beautifully hand-crafted Italian style wines and unusual dessert wines. Their wine selection includes Pinot Grigio, Chardonnays, Gewürztraminers (Dry and Sweet), Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Super Tuscan Blends. Their dessert wines include a Late Harvest Gewürztraminer, their very popular La Fantasía, and a beautiful Muscato called Il Raggio del Sole. The wines produced by Castello di Amorosa are available for purchase only at the winery or on their website. The winery also offers a wine club program called "Amici del Barone" (Friends of the Baron) Wine Club. Members are offered special discounts, tour and facility use privileges, priority access to new releases, and an invitation to Members Only Wine Club events.
